1. WHO WE ARE

Sosland Companies, Inc., d/b/a Sosland Publishing Company (“Sosland,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a business-to-business trade publishing company focused on delivering content to the food industry. Sosland provides a variety of marketing solutions to its business customers (“Services”). Sosland also operates publicly accessible websites, including www.dairyprocessing.com, www.sosland.com, www.bakemag.com, www.bakingbusiness.com, www.foodbusinessnews.net, www.meatpoultry.com, www.petfoodprocessing.net, www.supermarketperimeter.com, www.world-grain.com, www.purchasingseminar.com and www.petfoodprocessingexchange.net (“Sites”).

The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to disclose to you how we collect, use and share personal data and how we attempt to safeguard the personal data we collect and process. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post an amended version of the Privacy Policy on our Sites. Please review this Privacy Policy periodically.

2. PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT

We collect personal data from you through your use of the Sites and Services. Personal data is information that can be reasonably connected to an identified or identifiable individual. It does not include deidentified or anonymized data.

3. TYPES OF PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT

We collect the following types of personal data:

  1. Information You Provide To Us. We may collect the following categories of personal data if you provide it to us:
    • Create an Account. When you sign up for an account with us, we collect your contact information and identifiers (such as name, email address, phone number) and information regarding your business and job function;
    • Sign In. When you sign into your account, we collect your email address and password;
    • Sign up for our Newsletters. When you sign up for our newsletters, we collect information about your location (country), as well as your contact information (such as name and email address);
    • Register for Events. When you register for events with us, we collect your contact information (name, email address, cc email address, telephone numbers, address), as well as company name and title;
    • Order Information. We maintain information regarding any orders or service requests you make (date or order, purchase price, purchase information);
    • Sponsor our Events. When you sponsor our events or inquire about sponsoring our events, we collect your contact information (name, email) and any other content you provide to us.
    • Applying for Jobs. When you apply for jobs, we collect your contact information, information regarding your professional background (resume, curriculum vitae, credentials, education history, degree type, employment history, specialty areas, areas of professional interest), as well as information on how you were referred to us;
    • Employment. If you are employed by us, we collect information regarding your background and employment, preferences, contact information, and position information.
    • Contacting Us. When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, subject of the message and any other information you provide to us.
    • Interacting on Social Media. If you interact with us on social media, we may collect your social media account names / handles and any information you send to us.
  2. Information our Customers Provide to Us. Our customers may provide mailing lists and other information to us so that we can perform marketing services on their behalf. In that context, we act as a data processor and use the Personal Data contained therein only for the purposes of providing our Services to the customer.
  3. Information we Receive from Third Parties. We obtain personal data from third party providers, such as Dunn & Bradstreet.
  4. Information We Collect as You Navigate our Sites. We automatically collect certain personal data through use of our Sites and our use of cookies and other tracking technology (“cookies”), such as:
    • Usage Information. We collect information such as which areas of the sites you access, the frequency of access, and what you click on while using the sites.
    • Technical Information. We collect technical information about your connection to our sites, including the Internet protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, browser plug-in types and versions.
    • Device Information. We collect information about the device you are using, such as hardware model, operating system, application version number.
    • Mobile Device Information. In addition to the device information listed above, when you access our sites on your mobile device, we collect and aggregate information about whether you are accessing the sites via a mobile device or tablet, device type, and carrier.
    • Location Information. We collect location information from site visitors on a city-regional basis.
    • Geotagging. We geotag onsite time entries as required by some employers/facilities.

4. WHY WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We collect, process and use personal data to provide our Services and Sites. For example, we use the personal data we collect to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Provide you with information, quotes and offers;
  • Provide our Services;
  • Connect you with our advertisers and service partners;
  • Process your account registration (where applicable);
  • Provide you with support;
  • Personalize your experience on our Sites;
  • Improve our Services;
  • Measure the performance of our Sites and Services;
  • Audit current interactions and transactions with consumers;
  • Protect the security and integrity of the Sites and Services;
  • Maintain, improve and customize our products, Sites and Services;
  • Investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud or violations of our terms of use;
  • Efficiently maintain our business;
  • Comply with applicable law; and
  • Defend our legal rights and the rights of others.

5. HOW WE SHARE PERSONAL DATA

We may share the personal data we collect in the following ways:

  1. With Service Providers. We may share information with service providers who:
    • perform data services on our behalf, such as hosting and managed services;
    • prepare, deploy and analyze advertising content on our behalf;
    • provide other services on our behalf, such as accounting services, call center services, client relationship management services, and other various business services; and
    • process payment information on our behalf; and
    • provide cookie and privacy management services on our behalf.
  2. With Advertisers. We may share lead information with advertisers when they purchase certain products from us.
  3. To Meet Our Legal Requirements or Exercise Our Rights. We may share information with third parties in the following instances:
    • when we are required to do so by law.
    • In connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings.
    • To establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights, including providing information to others for the purposes of fraud prevention.
    • When we reasonably believe it is appropriate to apply to a court or other competent authority for disclosure of that Personal Data where, in our reasonable opinion, such court or authority would be reasonably likely to order disclosure of that Personal data.
    • We may share information with other persons or entities as part of our own corporate transactions, such as during financing or any asset sale.
  4. At Your Request. We will share your personal data when you request or otherwise consent to the disclosures. For example, if you request that we share your professional information with a healthcare employer, we will share the information you provided to us to share.

6. COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGY

We use tracking technology to: (a) estimate audience size and usage patterns; (b) understand and save your preferences for future visits, allowing us to customize the online experience to your individual needs; (c) advertise new content, events and services that relate to your interests; (d) keep track of advertisements and search engine results; (e) compile aggregate data about notifications, traffic and interactions to resolve issues and offer better online experiences and tools in the future; and (f) recognize when you return to our Sites.

Cookies are small files of information that are stored by your web browser software on your computer hard drive, mobile or other devices (e.g., smartphones or tablets). Some cookies are set by us, others are set by third party service providers, such as Google. For more information on our use of cookies and to make changes to your settings, please visit our Cookie Settings. Please note, however, that not all our Sites utilize non-essential cookies, so our Cookie Settings may not permit you to make changes to your settings for those Sites.

You can also control the use of cookies at the browser level by setting your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to block all cookies you may not be able to access all or parts of our Sites and Services. In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. Google Analytics

We may use Google Analytics (or other such services), a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics uses Cookies or other tracking technologies to help us analyze how users interact with the Sites and Services, compile reports on their activity, and provide other services related to their activity and usage. The technologies used by Google may collect information such as your IP address, time of visit, whether you are a returning visitor, and any referring website. The technologies used by Google Analytics do not gather information that personally identifies you. The information generated by Google Analytics will be transmitted to and stored by Google and will be subject to Google’s privacy policies. 7. UNIVERSAL OPT-OUT MECHANISMS

Some browsers incorporate “Do Not Track” or other privacy control features that signal to websites you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked or would like to exercise other preferences (such as cookie opt-outs). We use OneTrust as our cookie management provider for our Sites that use cookies and tracking and, through their services, we can receive and respond to global privacy control signals.

8. SECURITY

If you register for an account with us, you may be required to choose a password which enables you to access our Sites. You are responsible for keeping this password confidential and for all activity that takes place through your account credentials. Do not share your password with anyone. If your password is compromised, change your password within your account. If you believe your account may have been compromised, please notify us immediately.

We take industry standard security measures to protect your information. We also have put into place appropriate agreements and/or procedures with our service providers to ensure that your Personal Data is treated consistent with applicable data privacy and security laws. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your Personal Data, we cannot and do not guarantee the security of your data.

9. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Our Sites are not intended for children under sixteen (16) years old. We do not intentionally collect any personal data from consumers under the age of sixteen (16) years of age. We do not sell personal data of any individuals, including individuals under the age of sixteen (16) years.

Our Sites may contain links to other websites and companies that may be of interest to you. If you click on any of those links, you will leave our Sites. We are not responsible for third-party websites. Please consult the terms of service and privacy policies of those sites when you visit them.

11. YOUR STATE PRIVACY RIGHTS AND ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES

Depending on the state in which you reside, you may have certain privacy rights regarding your personal data. If you are a California resident, please see our “Notice to California Residents” section below.

For other state residents, your privacy rights may include (if applicable):

  • The right to confirm whether or not we are processing your personal data and to access such personal data;
  • The right to obtain a copy of your personal data that we collected from and/or about you in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format that allows you to transmit the information to another controller without hindrance, where the processing is carried out by automated means;
  • The right to delete personal data that we collected from and/or about you, subject to certain exceptions;
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal data that we maintain about you, subject to certain exceptions;
  • The right, if applicable, to opt out of the processing of your personal data for purposes of (1) targeted advertising; (2) the “sale” of your personal data (as that term is defined by applicable law); and (3) profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you;
  • If we are required by applicable law to obtain your consent to process sensitive personal data, the right to withdraw your consent; and
  • The right not to receive discriminatory treatment by us for the exercise of your privacy rights.

If you have questions or would like to exercise your rights, you may contact us via telephone or email provided in Section 16 below. If legally required, we will comply with your request upon verification of your identity and, to the extent applicable, the identity of the individual on whose behalf you are making such request. To do so, we will ask you to verify data points based on information we have in our records. If we do not take action regarding your request, you may appeal our decision by submitting an appeal to us via email or our webform.

12. PRIVACY NOTICE TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS

This Privacy Notice to California Consumers (“CA Notice”) is for California residents and supplements the other sections of Sosland’s Privacy Policy. This CA Notice explains how we collect, use and disclose your “personal information” (as that term is defined by California law) and how you may exercise your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and California Privacy Rights Act (“CPRA”). This Notice is intended solely for, and is applicable only as to, California residents. If you are not a California resident, this does not apply to you.

  1. YOUR RIGHTS. As a California resident, you have the following rights:

    RIGHT TO KNOWYou have the right to request that we disclose to you the personal information we collected about you in the 12-month period preceding your request. This right includes the right to request: (1) specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you; (2) categories of personal information we have collected about you; (3) categories of sources from which the personal information was collected; (4) categories of personal information that we sold or disclosed for a business purpose about you (if applicable); (5) categories of third parties to whom your personal information was sold or disclosed for a business purpose (if applicable); and (6) the business or commercial purpose for collecting or, if applicable, selling your personal information.
    RIGHT TO DELETEYou have the right to request that we delete your personal information that we have collected from you, with some exceptions. Note that if you request that we delete your information, we may be unable to provide you with certain offers or services.
    RIGHT TO CORRECTYou have the right to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
    RIGHT TO OPT OUT OF SALEYou have the right to say no to the sale of personal information. The CCPA defines “sell” to mean selling, renting, releasing, disclosing, disseminating, making available, transferring, or otherwise communicating orally, in writing, or by electronic or other means, a California resident’s personal information to another business or a third party for monetary or other valuable consideration.
    RIGHT TO LIMIT PROCESSING OF SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATIONIf we use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than those allowed by the CCPA and its regulations, the right to limit our use and disclosure. Sosland does not use or disclose Sensitive Personal Information for purposes other than for the limited purposes permitted by the CCPA and its regulations.
    RIGHT TO NON-DISCRIMINATONYou have the right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights. This means we cannot deny you goods or services, charge you different prices, or provide a different level of quality of goods or services just because you exercise your rights under the CCPA. Sosland will not and does not discriminate against you or other customers for exercising any of your CCPA rights.


  2. NOTICE AT COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION. To provide you with our Sites and Services, we collect and process information about you, including in some cases, personal information. To comply with the CCPA and to assist you in understanding our data collection and protection practices during the 12 months prior to the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy:
    1. Categories of Consumer Personal Data. We have listed the types of consumer personal information we have collected in Section 3 “Types of Personal Data We Collect” above.
    2. Purpose for Collection. We have identified the purpose for which we collect consumer Personal Information in Section 4 “Why We Collect and How We Use Your Personal Data” above. We may also collect personal information for the following business purposes:
      • Auditing related to counting ad impressions to unique visitors, verifying positioning and quality of ad impressions, and auditing compliance with this specification and other standards.
      • Helping to ensure security and integrity to the extent the use of your personal information is reasonably necessary and proportionate for these purposes.
      • Debugging to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality.
      • Short-term, transient use, including, but not limited to, non-personalized advertising shown as part of your current interaction with us, provided that your Personal Information is not disclosed to another third party and is not used to build a profile about you or otherwise alter your experience outside the current interaction with us
      • Performing services, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, or providing similar services.
      • Providing advertising and marketing services for the purpose of advertising and marketing, our service providers and/or contractors shall not combine the Personal Information of opted-out consumers that the service provider or contractor receives from us, or on our behalf with Personal Information that the service provider or contractor receives from, or on behalf of, another person or persons or collects from its own interaction with you
      • Undertaking internal research for technological development and demonstration.
      • Undertaking activities to verify or maintain the quality or safety of a service, and to improve, upgrade, or enhance the service.
      • Advancing our commercial or economic interests, such as by inducing another person to buy, rent, lease, join, subscribe to, provide, or exchange products, goods, property, information, or services, or enabling or effecting, directly or indirectly, a commercial transaction.
    3. Sources of Personal Information. As set forth in Section 3 “Types of Personal Data We Collect” above, we receive personal information from you, your device(s), and from our customers and third parties.
    4. Children’s Personal Information. We do not knowingly collect personal information of consumers under 16 years of age and we do not sell personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
    5. Sensitive Personal Information. We do not use sensitive personal information (as it is defined in the CCPA) for purposes other than those the CCPA and its regulations allow for.
    6. Retention of Personal Information. We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collect it, such as to provide you with the service you have requested, and for the purpose of satisfying any legal, accounting, contractual, or reporting requirements that apply to us.
    7. Sale of Data & Targeted Advertising. Sosland does not “sell” Personal Information, as that term is commonly interpreted. However, we do engage in targeted advertising activities that may constitute a sale or a share of Personal Information under California law. The following table identifies the categories of Personal Information that we have shared in the 12 months preceding the Date of Last Revision of this Privacy Policy and, for each category, the categories of third parties to whom we sold or shared Personal Information:

    9. Shine the Light Law. If you are a California resident and have an established business relationship with us, you may request that we do not disclose your personal information to third parties for the third parties’ own direct marketing purposes (as those terms are defined in California Civil Code § 1798.83). You may submit a request by contacting us as at DPO@sosland.com.
  3. HOW TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS. We do not discriminate in any way for exercising CCPA rights. We have provided a list of the categories of personal information we have collected in the preceding 12 months below, as well as a list of the categories of personal information we have shared with others for business purposes. If you have questions or would like to further exercise your rights, you may contact us via email or webform. Our email address and webform link are provided in Section 16 below. Please note that to protect your information, we may need additional information from you to verify your identity before processing your request. Under the CCPA, you may exercise these rights yourself or you may designate an authorized agent to make these requests on your behalf. We reserve the right to request that your authorized agent have written permission from you to make requests on your behalf and may need to verify your authorized agent’s identity.
    1. Right to Submit a Request to Know, Delete and/or Correct: You may submit a request to know, delete and/or correct by calling us at 800.338.6201, emailing us at DPO@sosland.com or contacting us through our online form. If you are submitting a request on behalf of a California resident, please submit the request through one of the designated methods discussed above. After submitting the request, we will require additional information to verify your authority to act on behalf of the California resident.
    2. Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing of Personal Information. You have the right to opt-out of the sales of your Personal Information and the sharing of your Personal Information for cross context behavioral marketing. You may exercise your right to opt out by following the instructions on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. To opt out of “sharing” of your Personal Information via cross context behavioral advertising, please go to our cookie settings and turn off Performance, Targeting and Social Media cookies.

13. PRIVACY NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA

The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) applies to individuals located in the European Economic Area (“EEA”). The GDPR allows us to collect and use personal information from individuals within the EEA only for one or more of the following reasons:

  1. To fulfill a contract we have with you;
  2. When we have a legal duty;
  3. When it is in our legitimate interest; or
  4. When you provide consent.

We do not operate in the EEA or specifically direct our business to consumers in the EEA. However, we recognize some of our website users, customers and prospective customers could be located within the EEA. If you reside in the EEA, you have a number of rights under data protection laws in relation to the way we process your Personal Data, which are set forth below. You may contact us directly to exercise any of these rights, and we will verify your request and, if appropriate, respond to any request received from you within one month from the date of the request. In exceptional circumstances we may need to extend this timescale, but we will always tell you in advance if we do, and our reasons why.



Right 1A right to access personal data held by us about you, as well as information about how we are using your data.
Right 2A right to require us to rectify any inaccurate personal data held by us about you.
Right 3A right to require us to erase personal data held by us about you, and where the personal data has been made public, for other controllers processing the personal data to also erase links to, or copy or replication of, such personal data. This right will only apply where (for example): we no longer need to use the personal data to achieve the purpose we collected it for; or where you withdraw your consent if we are using your personal data based on your consent; or where you object to the way we process your data (in line with Right 6 below).
Right 4A right to restrict our processing of personal data held by us about you. This right will only apply where (for example): you dispute the accuracy of the personal data held by us; or where you would have the right to require us to erase the personal data but would prefer that our processing is restricted instead; or where we no longer need to use the personal data to achieve the purpose we collected it for, but you require the data for the purposes of dealing with legal claims.
Right 5A right to receive personal data, which you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format. You also have the right to require us to transfer this personal data to another organization, at your request.
Right 6A right to object to our processing of personal data held by us about you (including for the purposes of sending marketing materials to you).
Right 7A right to withdraw your consent, where we are relying on your consent to use your personal data (for example, you may opt out of marketing emails even if you previously consented to receiving marketing information about our services or products).

You may also reach out to your applicable Data Protection Authority (“DPA”) for more information. There is a DPA located in each EU Member State.

14. DATA RETENTION

We will store your Personal Data for as long as: (a) you maintain an account with us; (b) you continue using our Sites and Services; (c) your Personal Data is stored in our back up servers and/or services; (d) in accordance with our retention policies and schedules; and (e) as long as we are legally required to retain the Personal Data.
